4 Promises or Goals of Iblees Against Mankind

Iblees is made of smokeless fire and is among the jinns who are made with abilities that man do not posses such as being invisible from the human sight, ability to move and ability to travel quickly. The first disobedience in Allah  that ever happened was due to arrogance that was done by Iblees. He was an obedient slave of Allah until Allah created Adam . Allah  commanded the angels and Iblees to prostrate to Adam , the angels did but Iblees refused and denied that Allah could create something better than him. Iblees was confident that he was better than Adam , because Adam  was made of clay while he was made of fire.

He said, “I am better than him (Adam ), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.”

This claim is also false because mud (or clay) has the qualities of wisdom, forbearance, patience and assurance. Mud is where plants grow, flourish and provide good food. Whilst mud supports and gives life, fire destroys and burns.

He then was the first one who showed arrogance. It is a characteristic that belongs to Iblees and his followers in this world. Next time you see yourself showing some arrogance then you should remind yourself about the story of Iblees. Arrogance was the reason why Iblees was expelled from paradise. So, don’t make it as your reason not to gain entrance. Then, remind yourself of the characteristic of the noble angels who obeyed Allah and prostrated to Adam  when they were commanded.

Allah  said to Iblees,

“Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajeem (an outcast or a cursed one).” (Tafseer At-Tabaree).

“And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)” [15: 34–35].

Iblees asked not for forgiveness but for a respite until the Day of Resurrection, and because of Allah ’s wisdom He granted him that. When Iblees was certain that he was doomed, he resolved to mislead whomever he could from the slaves of Allah , so that they would be with him in Hell.

Iblees said, “Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah .” [4: 119]

These are the promises of Iblees to Allah and his goals against mankind.

1. “I will mislead them” — He made misleading man as his primary goal. We can see in the situation of the humanity today that those people without strong faith in Allah become servants of Iblees instead of Allah . Iblees works hard to command the people to have doubts about Allah which will make them worship other than Allah , disobey Allah and engage with things that displease Allah .

2. “I will arouse in them false desires” — These false desires can be that of (a) desire of flesh, or sexual desire. We can see in our society today that we are surrounded by sex-driven environment. A haram sex between unmarried couple is abundant around us, unfortunately it even happens in places we consider as Islamic. We live in a society wherein if you are virgin, then people will laugh at you and If they get to know you are not into a relationship then they will think you are not really living a good life. Another false desire is that (b) worldly desires. People are being blinded by this deceptive dunya, and that is because of Iblees. People gets really inlove in this dunya that even if their dunya desires contradict Islam, they will still work hard for it even in haram way. Great example of this is attachment to culture. There are many cultural people who keep on enriching their culture, perserving their teachings even it’s totally against the teaching of Islam. Islam eradicated all the jahaliyyah (pre-Islamic) practices yet many of us still practice those today. Iblees commands the people to aspire for the false success in this dunya by being the most famous, most beautiful, most rich and most smart being.

3. I will order them to slit the ears of cattle” — This is playing with the creation of Allah such as the science trying to experiment with animal genes. We can see it today in the society where the science uses genetic engineering to disfigure the creation of Allah . Such as animal cloning, the use of stem cell, human-animal and animal-animal hybrids, and creating new species through experimenting. The science, after discovering a lot and contributing major inventions in our world today, has gone beyond its limit.

4. I will order them to change the nature created by Allah— Plastic surgery is popular today to change a person’s physical features. Korea is among the countries where plastic surgery is most popular. It has already been widely accepted by many countries nowadays. They can totally change their patients into totally different looking people. This can also be changing the gender, woman acting like a man and man acting like a woman.

We can obviously see all these happening nowadays and although we were warned of the goal of Iblees, our weakness of faith and desires make us fall into the traps of Iblees. That is why Iblees is so confident in wronging his victims that he openly declared his goals and his strategy by his evil whispers and temptations. Allah has made it clear to mankind that Iblees is their enemy and Iblees’ ultimate goal is to divert mankind from the goal that Allah established for them, which is to follow and worship Allah  by obeying His commands. Iblees’ ultimate goal is to make mankind disobey Allah  and to make them as his companions in the hell fire.
