There are days when we feel like although we have all the things we need, there is something missing. Those days are when we feel spiritually dehydrated. When we let ourselves attached to material things and achievements in this dunya, we tend to ignore the real purpose of our existence in this world. I’m sharing few things to do to quench this dehydration.
Make prayer a priority
Skipping a prayer greatly affect our spiritual being – negatively. It may lead to depression, sadness, loneliness, guilt and many more negative feelings. Make prayer a vital part of your daily life. Just like how water maintains the health of our body, prayer maintains the health of our soul.
Prayer should be your priority not your last resort. Pray not only when you feel like you can no longer handle the situation and when you don’t have anyone to go to. Before anything else, you should run to Allah both in good and bad times. Prayer is a great blessing because it serves as our communication to Allah. Pray and share your feelings, burdens, pains and all the joy you feel.
Shed away negative thoughts
You may feel as if you are too bad to start praying again and that you don’t deserve His acceptance. But those are just whispers of shaitaan. Don’t let those kind of thoughts lead you farther from Allah. Start praying, start asking forgiveness, start pushing yourself closer to Allah.
Equip yourself with Qur’an and mentors.
Do not ignore the power of reading and understanding the Qur’an. Qur’an brings joy, guidance, enlightenment and cure to all negative emotions. When you befriend Qur’an and make reading it a habit, then you will notice a positive change in your life. It will make you happier, more contented and more positive in life.
Sister Haya, a guest writer from Muslimah Bloggers, shares her journey to memorizing the Qur’an. Read her article “A light drenched heart” and hope it inspires you to start befriending the Qur’an.
Additionally, you should equip yourself with mentors. It could be your Islamic teacher, your parents or your buddy. Have someone who will remind you of the right things especially in times when your greatest enemy is yourself.
Don’t let the events in your life here in dunya affect your life in the hereafter
If you know the real purpose of your existence here in dunya, you won’t feel discouraged when you encounter rejections, failure and critics and you won’t feel proud when you receive compliments, achievements and success. If you let the events in your life here in dunya affect you, it will lead to being distracted and forgetting your priorities.
Stop comparing yourself with others
We are all going through different things and experiencing different challenges. It is not fair to compare yourself with others. When you keep on comparing yourself, you will feel bad or less of yourself. Keep in mind that everyone has his struggles when in becoming better everyday. Not because you see people smiling does it mean they are spiritually okay while you are not. Don’t think that you are experiencing tough things while others don’t. They may be experiencing more difficult situations than you but their faith in Allah keeps them strong.
